FAQ

Sensible questions,
honest answers.

Naggler is a small app with a few knobs worth explaining. Start with how Naggy's brain works — that's the one people ask most.

Naggy's brain

You have three options
to power Naggy.

Every option runs the same Naggy. They differ in where the thinking happens, who pays for it, and how private the conversation stays. Most people pick Cloud and never look back. Pick whichever fits.

Naggler Cloud

Ready the moment you install. Works out of the box. We cover the compute using the Anthropic family of models — the same Claude models powering serious work across the industry.

  • Setup: None. It just works.
  • Cost to you: Free during beta.
  • Where thinking happens: Our servers, routed to Anthropic.
  • Powered by: Anthropic (Claude).

Your key, your billing

Bring Your Own Key

Drop in your own API key and Naggy uses that instead. Unlimited use, billed directly to you. Handy if you already have an Anthropic account, or want full control over the spend.

  • Setup: Paste a key in Settings → Brain.
  • Cost to you: Whatever the provider charges — typically pennies per day of active use.
  • Where thinking happens: The provider's servers. We never see it.
  • Compatible with: Anthropic keys today. OpenAI family of models support is on the roadmap.

Local and Private with Ollama

One-click install flow inside the app. Your conversations never leave your machine — not to us, not to anyone. Perfect if you work on sensitive material or just prefer the old-school magic of running your own model.

  • Setup: Click "Install Ollama" in Settings. The app handles the rest.
  • Cost to you: Zero. You're using your own CPU/GPU.
  • Where thinking happens: On your machine. Air-gapped capable.
  • Trade-off: Slightly slower and a bit less sharp than Cloud on older laptops.

You can switch between any of these at any time in Settings → Brain. Your task ledger stays local and untouched either way.

Everything else

Other sensible questions.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-up, no newsletter, no email gate. Download Naggler, launch it, and you're running. Your task ledger is stored locally on your machine.

What does Naggler cost?

Naggler itself is free during beta. If you use Naggler Cloud, we cover the compute — you pay nothing. If you Bring Your Own Key, you pay your model provider directly (usually pennies per day). If you run Ollama locally, it's free — you're using your own hardware.

What data leaves my machine?

Your task ledger — the list of things you said mattered and the check-ins you answer — lives on your disk and never leaves unless you export it. The only data that leaves is the brief AI conversation when you talk to Naggy, and only if you're on Cloud or BYOK. On Ollama, nothing leaves at all.

Which operating systems does it run on?

Windows 10+, macOS, and Linux x86_64. Naggler is desktop-only — there's no mobile app, and that's intentional. The tray icon on your desktop is the product.

Why does my computer warn me about running it?

Our Windows and macOS builds aren't code-signed yet, which means first-launch shows a "this app is from an unidentified developer" warning. We're actively working with Apple and Microsoft on developer signing — it's a paperwork and verification process, not a trust issue. Until then, on macOS you can right-click → Open, and on Windows you can click "More info" → "Run anyway". Checksums are on our GitHub releases page if you want to verify the binary yourself.

Can I get the raw builds from GitHub?

Yep. Every release — Windows, macOS, and Linux — is published on the latest release page with checksums and signatures. The download buttons on the home page pull from the same place; GitHub just gives you the direct artifact list and release notes.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Naggler's ledger is a local file you own. You can export check-ins, rankings, and session history to CSV or JSON from Settings → Export. No lock-in, nothing held hostage.

Does it work offline?

Yes, if you pick Ollama. The core tracking loop — set priorities, answer pings, review your day — works without a network either way. You only need a connection when you're talking to Naggy on Cloud or BYOK.

Will you ever sell or train on my data?

No. We don't sell user data. We don't train models on your conversations. Full stop. See our privacy policy for the detailed version.
